I just finished reading Alma Katsu’s  beautifully written immortal love story, ‘The Taker.’ (See below for how to WIN a copy).

Alma sent me a copy of the novel about a month ago, along with the second book of The Taker Trilogy, ‘The Reckoning,’ which is on sale June 19th.

After spending about a month with these characters, sailing through this beautiful, yet dark, shattering and heartbreaking story, I wanted to share it with you all!

This book will take you through a bouncing range of emotions; fear, hope, heartbreak, etc., as it sweeps you through two centuries of Lanny McIlvrae’s story of unrequited love for Jonathan St. Andrew, and the eternal hope that lingers within her.

Although The Taker is an immortal love story, it is not a vampire novel. Alma used fantastical elements to weave this gothic novel together, and in the end, alchemy, passion, sacrifice, greed, narcissism and love prove to be a corrosive potion in Alma Katsu’s captivating tale. This book will keep you up reading through the night, and will stick with you well after you’ve stepped out of Lanny’s word.

I should warn younger readers: this novel deals with some sensitive, dark topics (abuse, violence, rape, suicide, sex, etc.) However, Alma manages to write such topics in a tactful manner, each serving its crucial purpose of developing the storyline.
